DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE POLICY of your shift. Such notice must be delivered to the designated Supervisor to be considered proper. Pre-approved Excused Absences (unpaid): Employees may request approval for up to six (6) pre- approved excused absences per calendar year. An employee requesting time off under this Section must complete and submit a Time Off Request form to his or her supervisor at least two (2) weeks in advance. The supervisor will send a copy of the request to Human Resources. You will be required to substitute any accrued paid leave while on unpaid personal leave. Interaction of Pre-approved Excused Absences and PST: This type of pre-approved excused absence may meet the definition of absences eligible for PST. If the absence meets PST requirements – and you have PST still available – PST will apply and you will be paid for the absence up to 8 hours providing you have that much paid sick time available. The absence will not count toward the six (6) excused absences. If the absence meets the PST requirements and you do NOT have PST available for the accrual year, the pre- approved excused absences (unpaid) provisions will apply and the absence will count toward one of your six (6) excused absences per calendar year. Excessive excused absence or tardiness. Excessive excused absences or tardiness may result in disciplinary action, depending upon the circumstances of each case. The Company defines excessive excused absences as any pattern of absences that become a disruption to the workforce. The company defines excessive tardiness as any pattern of tardiness that becomes a disruption to the workforce. Where appropriate, employees with an excessive number of excused absences may be required to take a leave of absence. This rule does not apply to any absences or tardiness covered by legally protected leave such as FMLA or The PST Act. The company is a drug-free workplace . Besides pre-employment drug testing, we also conduct random drug testing of all employees. We do not tolerate the violation of our Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy for any reason. Violations of the policy can pose a danger to you, your fellow employees, and our customers. It can also affect the company’s good will, good name and everyone's job security. Quite simply, neither the company nor you can afford it! A copy of the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy is permanently posted on the bulletin board and is reviewed with each employee. If you have any questions concerning the policy, please discuss them with your supervisor or your Human Resources Department. To protect our customers and our employees’ safety and health, we take a number of steps to ensure that our policy is followed including for cause, post-accident, and/or random drug/alcohol testing. To help inform and educate all of us on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, we have established an awareness program. This program emphasizes our policy of maintaining a drug- and alcohol-free workplace; advises you of available counseling or rehabilitation opportunities and employee assistance programs; and includes features in our employee communications. The company strongly encourages employees who develop a drug and/or alcohol problem to notify the human resources business partner or your supervisor prior to being caught in violation of this policy. It is the employee's responsibility to seek assistance before he or she is discovered in violation of the policy and the company takes disciplinary action. If you enter a pre- approved treatment program, you may be eligible for certain benefits during your absence. Please see your human resources business partner for more details.
