PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EOUIPMENT - EAR PLUGS. BAND AIDS, ETC. POLICY

INTRODUCTION It is the desire of the company to eliminate all potential sources of foreign matter and their point(s) of entry into our products. Foreign matter is anything found in the product that is not a part of the formulation. Earplugs and band aids are often required in certain work areas. The inappropriate use of an approved earplugs or band aids or the use of un-approved earplugs or band aids greatly enhances the risk of earplugs or band aids contaminating food products. Food contaminated with earplugs or band aids or whereby it may have become contaminated with earplugs or band aids shall be deemed adulterated. The introduction of adulterated foods introduced into interstate commerce is a violation of federal law and is subject to seizure by FDA. POLICY The guidelines listed below shall govern the use of band aids and ear plugs. Shall means mandatory (CFR 110.3 (p) and should means recommended (CFR 110.3 (q). GUIDELINES Ear Plugs shall conform to the following guidelines: 1. All ear plugs shall be metal traceable. 2. Shipments of detectable metal strip bandages shall be verified upon receipt by testing the bandages with a functioning metal detector. 3. The cord shall not be removed. 4. The cord shall be worn behind the neck, not in front of the neck. 5. The hair net shall extend below the bottom of the ear. 6. These guidelines do not preclude the use of ear sound muffs or bands in place of earplugs. Band Aids shall conform to the following guidelines: 1. Band aids shall be metal traceable. 2. Shipments of detectable metal strip bandages shall be verified upon receipt by testing the bandages with a functioning metal detector. 3. Band aids shall be colored, but not flesh tone, clear or tan in color. 4. All exposed cuts and grazes shall be shall be covered by a facility issued detectable metal strip bandage. 5. Gloves that conform to the glove policy shall be worn over any band aid applied to the hand.
