Henderson Employee Handbook

Scenario: John Doe called out sick for his shift for 1-day.

Example 1: John Doe’s FLEX and PTO balances are shown above on the day he called out. In this example since John has not used all 40-hours of FLEX for the year and he has over 8-hours of PTO available to use towards his FLEX, then his call out for the 1-day would be excused and covered by FLEX. His supervisor would apply 8-hours of Unscheduled PTO to his timecard to excuse the absence.

Example 2: John Doe’s FLEX and PTO balances are shown above on the day he called out. In this example although John has not used any FLEX for the year, since his PTO balance is less than 8-hours then his absence would not be covered by FLEX (since he doesn’t have enough PTO to use towards FLEX) therefore his absence would be subject to applicable attendance points since his absence would not be excused. His supervisor would also still apply his available 3-hours of PTO to his missed day.

Example 3: John Doe’s FLEX and PTO balances are shown above on the day he called out. In this example although John has more than 8-hours of PTO, he has already used all 40-hours of FLEX for the year therefore his absence would be subject to applicable attendance points since his absence would not be excused. His supervisor would also still apply 8-hours of PTO to his missed day.
